The LWV is one of a very few multi-issue organizations in the country and is widely respected for its thorough and deliberate investigation of public issues.  The issues which are adopted by the membership for study constitute the League program, and become the basis for lobbying and advocacy efforts of the League.

Additional historical and ongoing efforts include: registering and informing voters, strengthening county government, urging city/county cooperation, maintaining Project Positive Campaigning, advocating for comprehensive land use planning, solid waste reduction, improved air and water quality, monitoring Irondequoit Bay area, affordable housing, early childhood issues, welfare reform, court reform, women's rights, equity in sales tax distribution, and strengthening of the United Nations.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE
Co-Chairperson:     Sara Johnstone
Co-Chairperson:     Judy Weinstein
Activities:    
Committee member respresents local LWV on Genesee Transportation Council and sends observers to County of Monroe Industrial Development Council and Genesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council.  Committee also works on land use and urban sprawl issues.

LOCAL PROGRAM
EQUITABLE TAXATION:
Promote property assessment based on uniform standards throughout the county and maintained at full value.  
Promote use of sales-tax revenue distribution formula that will reduce fiscal disparities among Monroe County municipalities.   
POLICE SERVICES:
Promote an equitable method of financing and a coordinated approach to the delivery of police services.
STRUCTURES, PROCEDURES, AND PRODUCTIVITY:
Promote governmental structures and procedures that make for effectiveness, improve productivity, and facilitate citizen participation.   
Promote a budget process that includes documents that are understandable and foster good decision making and summaries that are made widely available and encourage citizen involvement.  
REDISTRICTING:
Promote making county legislative districts compact and contiguous as well as equal in population and in compliance with with the federal voting rights act, whenever they are redrawn, following each decennial census.   
PLANNING AND ZONING:
Suppport of community development based on comprehensive planning at all levels of government.  
Support of environmental preservation and coordinated control of development and water surface use by the three towns around Irondequoit Bay and by the county.

STATE PROGRAM

LEGISLATIVE PROCEDURES:
Support measures to increase impact legislators have on legislative preceedings; longer and possibly staggered terms for legislators; reduction of number of bills submitted each year; expand monitoring of lobbyists; and create a commission or board of ethics.
CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION:
LWVNYS neither supports nor opposes but believes education and involvement of the public, adequate time, funding, planning, and non pertisanship are necessary.

NATURAL RESOURCES
Chairperson:     Ann Jones
Activities:    
Presentation of Wetlands/Stream Bank Education Model, Stream Team that monitors a section of Irondequoit Creek, representatives on Federation of Monroe County Environmentalists, Kodak Park Community Advisory Committee, Monroe County Park Advisory Committee, and Monroe County Water Quality Advisory Committee.

LOCAL PROGRAM

NEW YORK STATE ERIE/BARGE CANAL SYSTEM:
Support of reconditioning of the system and its development for recreational uses.  

SOLID WASTE:
Support of waste reduction, reuse/recycling, and landfills that are, or can be engineered to be ecologically acceptable as part of a comprehensive solid waste program.

SOCIAL POLICY

Activities:
Members represent LWV/RMA on the following boards: Fair Housing Coalition; Greater Rochester Coalition for Choice; Housing Advocacy Coalition; Monroe County Advisory Committee of Women's Issues.
Also involved in Early Childhood Issues and Welfare Reform.

HOUSING:
Support of measures to ensure an adequate supply of housing for persons of low and low-to-moderate income in Monroe County.  
Support of measures which would lead to fair housing choice in Monroe and Genesee counties.

Support for measures to meet needs for low-income housing through use of state funds and incentives to localities.

HEALTH CARE

STATE PROGRAM:

Support measures to ensure basic level of quality health care for all state residents including regulatory incentives to encourage development of cost-effective alternative mathods of delivery; funding for health policy and desease prevention programs; provisions fro effective citizen participation in health police decisions.

Support of measures that enable individuals to assume responsibility for their personal health and to participate in treatment decisions including termination of extraordinary, life-extending procedures.

Support uniform eligibility and coverage of basic health care costs through public financing.

Support Women's Health and Wellness Act.

Support measures for the Uninsured.

VOTER SERVICE

Activities:
Distributes Facts for Voters on local candidates and ballot issues;   Participates in Election Night Reporting;   Provides speakers for moderates for community groups;   Publishes Who Represents You?, a directory of elected officials;   Welcomes new citizens at naturalization ceremonies;      provides registration forms;   Signing of Fair Campaign Pledge.

LOCAL PROGRAM
Election Process:
Promote fair, isue oriented campaigning and encourage voters to take the initiative to influence the style and type of political campaign.

STATE PROGRAM

Support of measures to protect, extend and encourage voters use of the franchise; open the political system by enacting a public campaign finance law for statewide offices; establish legal, ethical campaign guidelines; monitor campaign practices; restore integrity to the election process and simpifly rules for ballot access.
